Cultivate a Better World

Video:

Topic:
New Creation

Bible:
2 Corinthians 5:17

Discussion Starter:
Did you see the Jesus message in that video?

The story goes like this: In the past, fast food companies abused the food chain until one day they awoke to a new reality. They could change! Chipotle doesn’t have to destroy farms and disrespect animals in order to create your delicious burrito. In fact, they can supernaturally transform themselves and, so the slogan says, “Cultivate a Better World.” And farmers and their families can live on farms holding hands while pigs wander around with no fences at all!

Sure, it’s a dream which we can laugh at because it’s full of irony. Seriously? A fast food chain wants to think of itself as kind to pigs and farmers? (This same irony is found in Willie Nelson singing a Coldplay song.)

Yet we, as Jesus followers, believe in a somewhat similar dream. Paul writes, ”Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” Paul reminds us that through Jesus we really can start over, and not just look forward to spending eternity in Heaven, but also to live our lives here today in a way which draws us back to a different kind of living. This new creation mindset reminds us of the Garden of Eden, a place where we really can cultivate a better world.

3 Questions:

  • For the next 20 years, would you rather be a farmer or work at Chipotle?
  • If you could change one thing back to “the old days” what would it be?
  • What are ways you are living to cultivate a better world?
Chew on this:
Is there anything that’s “old creation” that you’d miss?
