Shake that washing machine!

Shaking Apart

Topic: Authentic friendship

Bible: Proverbs 27:17

Discussion Starter:
“I’m fine!” If washing machines could talk that’s probably what this one would say. After all, the motor did just fine!

It’s much the same with us. We all need friends in our lives who can look at us, notice what’s wrong, and speak truth into our life in a way that helps us.

Proverbs 27:17 says, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” A casual acquaintance or even someone you’ve known for a long time might notice what’s shaking in your life. But a true friend will take the time to pull the plug and help you fix what is broken.

3 Questions:

  • What would happen if you tried this at home with your families washing machine?
  • What are some examples from the Bible of authentic friendship?
  • Have you ever had to tell a friend something very difficult that was true? What was the impact?
Chew on this:
Iron sharpening iron is no gentle process. Why do you think God made it so difficult?
