The Trampoline Effect

Topic:  Prayer
Bible:  Matthew 7:7

Discussion starter:
Let’s state the obvious. This video is not 101 things to try on our next mission trip.

Trampolines work because energy is transferred when you push down, is stored briefly in the springs & bedding, then transferred back into your legs/body so that you get to bounce nearly as high, or even a little higher, than you’ve jumped. Typically, you get about as much energy back as you put into it. But with practice, skill… or a partner you actually get more energy out of it than you put in.

While not exactly the same it is similar to what happens when you pray. In Matthew 7, Jesus says, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” In other words, you’ve got to work on it a little. Sometimes you need to knock on the door again and again in prayer, asking God to move something big. (Colossians 4:2-6; 1 Timothy 5:5) You’ve got to expect that you’ll get out of prayer what you put into it.

So when you are praying for something big, don’t be afraid to put a lot into it as you anticipate God providing a great, big answer.

3 Questions:

  1. If you could jump off a 3 story building onto a trampoline, would you?
  2. Have you ever prayed for something big and seen God answer?
  3. What are you persistently praying about?

Chew on this:
Why does it seem like I do all the talking when I pray?
