Me Serve … Them?

“Why should I serve them, they should be serving me.”  We often evaluate others and then place ourselves in some form of hierarchy or scale by which we determine where we are compared to them. Upon this scale we determine who should minster to us, who we listen to, and who we should minister to.  John 13:3-5 says that Jesus, “knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God, rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself.  After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded.”

Jesus knew where He came from, He knew that God was with Him now and He knew His destiny, therefore He was able to serve.  This three-fold awareness enabled Jesus to function in ways that would have seemed “beneath His dignity”.

Being certain that God has placed us on the earth for a purpose, that God is with us now, and that He will take us to be with Him in eternity, should bring great confidence to us.    As we rest in God’s hand upon us, through our past, present and future, we too will be able to step into any situation with confidence.

Jesus, You knew that the Father’s hand was upon You, this freed You to serve others.  Help us to walk in this awareness so we too can willingly serve others.
