I Will Do This Because

Exodus 33:17 “So the Lord said to Moses, “I will also do this thing that you have spoken; for you have found grace in My sight, and I know you by name.”” God says that He will submit to the request of Moses because Moses had found grace in God’s sight and because God knew Him by name. What does this mean to have found grace in God’s sight, and what does this mean that God would know Moses by name? Obviously God knows an individual’s name, but the name of an individual also speaks of one’s character and nature. When a person’s name was changed it was because their nature, calling and direction of life was changed. When God would think of your name, your heart, your nature, the direction of your life, what does He see? Does He see that which would cause and enable Him to trust you with answered requests? Does He see a nature that would be worthy of His increased presence? In the verses before this we see that Moses valued and cherished God being with him. Could it be that there are times when God does not answer our requests nor does He do the things that we have spoken, because He knows our motives and He also knows that we desire the things around us more than we desire Him? God knows all about us, our character, our motives and our values. Take a moment to reflect on these aspects of your life so that in a positive way God would say that He knows us by name.
