A Walk Through the Book of Luke – Small Group

This is what the Lord says, he who made the earth, the Lord who formed it and established it – the Lord is his name: “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”  Jeremiah 33:2-3NIV

What a fantastic group of ladies that are studying the book of Luke under the teachings of Frances Jacob.  As they grow deeper together and dig through this book, we are excited to hear about the things God is telling them through His Word.

Parenting Teens Online Class: HOW TO LEAVE A LEGACY THAT MATTERS Part 1

Dear Parents,

This is a BIG DAY in our ministry.

We are starting our online parenting class in this email. We hope that you will find this experience extremely helpful and informative.

Today we are going to begin by talking about your will….

Do you have a will? You know, the paper that they pull out when you die to see who gets your stuff.

The process of preparing a will is not fun. The lawyer asks you, “If you die who will you give your stuff to?” You say, “Give it to my spouse.” The lawyer quickly responds, “and if your spouse dies who will you give your stuff to?”

This goes on and on until it seems like everyone is dead and you are so frustrated you consider telling the lawyer that they can have it!

When you write a will you figure out how you are going to leave your stuff, but what about the stuff that matters most?

What values are you going to leave your teenager?

What will you teach them about what is right and wrong in this world?

What will your teenager know about faith?

Our student ministry wants to help you leave a rich inheritance to your teenager of the stuff that really matters.

That is why we want to introduce you to the Rites of Passage Experience. We are going to help you have the conversations with your teenager that matter the most.

We are going to give you the tools to infuse faith into the most import moments in life.

Here are the 7 Rites of Passage we are going to encourage you to lead your teenager through:

Grade 6 – Preparation for Adolescence
Grade 7 – Blessing Ceremony
Grade 8 – Purity Weekend
Grade 9 – Money Matters
Grade 10 – Driving Contract
Grade 11 – Family Tree
Grade 12 – Manhood/Womanhood Ceremony

I want to finish today’s class by asking you to watch this 3 minute video. It explains the Rites of Passage Experience we are launching as the foundation of our Parent Ministry.

You can see it here: http://goo.gl/jKufZM

As always please feel free to reply to this email with any questions about the Rites of Passage Experience or prayer requests. More information next week!

YOUTUBE DISCUSSION

Video:

Topics:

Boredom, Creativity, Sabbath

Bible:

Exodus 20:8-11

Discussion Starter:

This video is a demonstration of what one might do when they have too much time on their hands. Or, if you like the video, perhaps not?

Have you ever found that your best ideas come to you when you have nothing else to do?

The simple fact is that our society loves to celebrate creative expression but forgets to celebrate creating time in our lives where we can be creative. Instead, we confuse being busy 7 days per week for being productive members of our society.

But don’t forget that the Creator of creativity, the Painter that colors the sunset with a million shades of orange, and the Author of life itself has given us the formula for unleashing creativity and health in our lives:

Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. (Exodus 20:8-11)

Three Questions:

  1. What’s something awesome you’ve done just because you were bored?
  2. Would you rather have a protected day, say Saturday, as the Sabbath where you were forbidden from doing any kind of work or a Sabbath day you fit in when it’s convenient to your schedule?
  3. What would have to change in your life to make a weekly Sabbath seriously.

Chew on this:

What’s the relationship between boredom and creativity?
